ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE IN PEDIATRIC INPATIENTS
👉 Antibiotic resistance in children is becoming a global concern. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 5 million deaths annually are associated with antimicrobial resistance, and around 20% of these are in children under five.
👉 The CDC reports that 25% of antibiotic prescriptions for children are unnecessary or inappropriate, accelerating the spread of resistance.
📌 In Vietnam, according to reports from the Ministry of Health and studies conducted at Children’s Hospitals 1 and 2, antibiotic resistance in children is at an alarming level. Certain bacterial strains such as E. coli and K. pneumoniae have shown resistance rates of up to 40–70% to beta-lactam antibiotics, third-generation cephalosporins, and carbapenems.
