Double chin

Two Techniques For Getting Rid Of A Double Chin

A double chin is not a problem that is unique to fat or old people. In fact, many young and fit people are also plagued by excess fat under the chin, which not only makes them look older than the actual age, but also prevents them from having a well-defined and V-line face shape. In order to attain a younger and more chiseled look, many people have sought out surgical means to remove the double chin.

What causes a double chin?

Unlike deep fat which lies several layers under the skin, superficial fat which is primarily composes the double chin is very dense. Therefore, it is harder to get rid of one accumulated.

Dieting and exercise is often not enough to get rid of this stubborn double chin fat. So if you’re not overweight, there are faster ways to get rid of a double chin via an established cosmetic surgery procedure.

Who needs double chin removal?

– People who lack a strong chin line or definition.

– People whose jaw bone is under-developed yet having excess fat deposits or loose skin marking the jaw and chin line.

– People who can’t get rid of a double chin even after sticking to a strict diet and exercise regimen.

Two techniques to get rid of double chin

There are two popular techniques to get rid of a double chin: Liposuction through acculift laser and under-chin surgery.

# 1. Chin Liposuction

Non-invasive or minimally invasive treatments are usually the preferred first option as they come with fewer risks. Facial liposuction therefore is often considered the best solution to get rid of double chin fat. According to a study on this field, South Korea leads the world in having the most number of facial fat reduction procedures done every year, with 1.699 procedures per 1,000 people.

This procedure is done under local anesthesia and often takes 30-60 minutes. This is performed using a 1444nm laser wavelength which is very well absorbed by water and fat tissue. The acculift laser will break down fat cells and then suck it out using a micro tube called a cannula. The end result also gives the face a more well-defined chin and, consequently, a younger look.

#2. Under-chin surgery:

This method is used in cases where the muscles and skins under the chin are loose and weak due to aging or excessive, rapid weight loss. This procedure is done under local anesthesia as well. Small incisions are made under the chin. Loose muscles and sagging skin around the neck will then be cut off or pulled forward to the ear area. Excess fat will also be removed if needed. This technique thoroughly removes sagging skin on neck and facial areas, creating a slim and beautiful V-line face. Once the procedure is done, incisions will be sutured with absorbable threads.

What are the benefits, risks and recovery timeline of these two techniques?

# 1. Chin Liposuction

This technique has many advantages:

– Safety: Selective absorbable rate of acculift laser minimizes damage to skin and muscle tissues. It is also authorized by FDA in USA and CE in Europe.

– Non-invasive: A micro needle is used for the inserting the laser beam and so there is almost no visible scar left after surgery.

Recovery timeline and risks:

This is considered a simple procedure so the patient can be discharged from the hospital on the same day the surgery is performed. Recovery following a double chin fat removal procedure involves little to no downtime.

Many patients will experience swelling but this would subside rapidly.

An elastic chin strap should be worn for a few days so that there is a gentle pressure on the area of liposuction chin procedure.

#2. Under-chin surgery:

This technique not only removes the excess fat but also cuts off the sagging skin and loose muscles. Any visible imperfections on the chin and neck area will be vanished. It’s the best option for old people who want to look younger with a more well-defined face with chiseled chin.

Recovery timeline and risks:

The patient has to keep the chin and neck area clean and dry to avoid infections.

Some patients may experience swelling and bruising which will subside on their own in a couple of days after the procedure with the help of ice packs. The full result will be visibly seen once all swellings have subsided after a couple of weeks.

Soft or liquid foods such as vegetables soup or thin rice gruel are recommended for the first week after the surgery. Eating hard foods will only be allowed after one month.

It would be advisable for the patient to take rest for 2-3 days. However, moderate activities could be undertaken without any problem.
